What is CVT ? || which CVT is best for Baja vehicle ? - Baja Teach

What is CVT? CVT stands for continuously variable transmission. The major components of the CVT system are driving pulley, driven pulley, CVT belt. It provides the infinity number of gear ratios within a particular range of ratios. How CVT works? While a traditional transmission uses a wide variety of intricate parts to shift between ranges of present gears, most CVT systems work through a pulley system. In short, this system consists of cones at each pulley connected via a chain belt. The cones can move to increase or decrease the belt diameter to change gear ratios, allow for quick shifting into the needed ratio for increased power, and boost fuel economy. One pulley in the CVT is connected to the engine and the other directs power to the wheels. The width of these pulleys changes based on the needed power; as one gets larger, the other gets smaller. There is a second, less common, type of CVT that uses a series of discs and rollers, but it operates on similar p

About BAJA SAE EVENT- Baja Teach

BAJA SAE event is organized by the society of automotive engineers (SAE) for undergraduate students. The objective of BAJA is to stimulate real-world design, projects, and related their challenge…. BAJA SAE competition takes three to four days.
BAJA SAE EVENT held in only six countries all over the world USA, Mexico, South Africa, Brazil, and INDIA.
The event was first originated in the year of 1976 at the The University of Carolina with the name of Mini-BAJA.

BAJA SAE INDIA started in 2007. But the story starts in 2002 when the the first team from INDIA of Delhi college engineers participated in Mini-BAJA 2002.
Baja SAE India competition held in two places first in Indore Pritampur and second at Chandigarh University. Your team got which event depends upon your Baja Virtual scores. Among 350 teams only the top 150 teams go head for BAJA Pritampur and about 60 teams go for Chandigarh University. So it is very important to clear Baja Virtual for participating in the main event.
In Baja Sae India, teams of a maximum of 25 students and a minimum of 5 students from different colleges and universities all over India participated. Every team needs to design and build an off-road vehicle and performed in various dynamic and static events. But…
Baja Sae India is a two-level process and students need to clear the virtual Baja first. After clearing this round teams are willing to start their fabrication process and become eligible to participate in the Main Event.

What is BAJA virtual or it is important to clear?
Virtual Baja is the first phase of Baja Sae India it is also called design round. In this round teams are need to virtually design their off-road vehicle using mechanical fundamentals and software like Solidworks, Catia, Ansys, Hypermesh, Lotus, ADAM, etc.
Note: For clearing virtual Baja is it important your vehicle strictly follows the rulebook guidelines.
In this round you need to prepare Baja virtual design presentation using the template provided by Baja Sae India. In this presentation you need to show your designing and calculation parameters of different departments (powertrain, brakes and tires, steering and suspension, Roll cage, Analysis, and your market report). Always follow the guidelines of the rulebook to avoid disqualification.

Scoring of Baja Sae India main event
The total score of the event is 1000 points.
Dynamic + static events = 1000
Dynamics events: 700 points
1.      Acceleration -                                      50 points
2.      Hill climb or suspension and traction- 50 points
3.      Manoeuvrability-                                  75 points
4.      Rock crawl-                                        125 points
5.      Endurance -                                        400 points
Static events: 300 points
1.      Design report -                                   150 points
2.      Cost report-                                        100 points
3.      Sales presentation-                            50 points

Acceleration event:
The acceleration event is designed to measure the time taken by the vehicle to complete straight 100ft (30.48m) from standing start position.

Suspension and traction:
In this event, the track includes various curves, hill climb, and 7ft direct fall. This event is designed to measure gradability, stabling, and durability of the vehicle.

Maneuverability:
In this event track consist only sharp turns and figure of eight. This event is designed to check the handling ability of the vehicle.

Rock crawl:
In this event, the track is made by the pouring of big stones in a 70-80ft long mattress. To clear this event or scoring more points you need to focus on tire pressure and ground clearance of the vehicle.

Note: Rock crawl event is 2nd tough dynamic event after suspension and traction.

Endurance:
The endurance is closed-loop measuring 1.5 to 5 km. the endurance track consists of different surfaces.eg. (Dirt, grass, sand, mud ground, stone and hill climb) the endurance track consists of various obstacles to the test the durability, traction, and speed of the vehicle. Continuously 4 hours Baja vehicle run on the track, therefore good immunity and stamina driver is a must.

Note: Your team is free to take two attempts in all dynamic events including the brake test.

Thank you

Which caliper is best for Baja Vehicle?- Baja Teach

I considered nothing is more in the brakes department if you are going to use an OEM caliper. In Baja vehicles, the hydraulic braking system is used. Please don't consider drum brakes. There is no sense to use drum brakes in Baja vehicles because it is heavy, big and also driver needs more force for actuating the brakes. Hydraulic disc brake good efficient to use for Baja vehicle because it is lighter in weight, compact in size no more force required by the driver. In this type of Braking System incompressible fluid is used to actuate brakes, this fluid is called brakes fluid . Types of brakes fluids available DOT3 DOT4 DOT5 DOT3 and DOT4 are glycol-based fluids. DOT5 is silicon-based fluid. The simple difference is DOT3 and DOT4 absorb water while DOT5 doesn't. And the main point on which brake fluid is decided is its boiling point . There are two types of brake calipers used in Baja vehicles. 1. Floating caliper 2. Fixed caliper F

Types of brake fluids-Baja Teach

Without choosing proper brake fluid for Baja Vehicle drivers may face problems during braking. How much brakes department is important we all know, without clearing brake test Baja vehicle is not eligible to participate in any dynamic events? What is brake fluid?                                           Brake fluid is a type of incompressible fluid used in the hydraulic braking system in the automobile industry. It is used to transfer force from brake pedal to the caliper and to amplify braking force. Brake fluid is decided on the following characteristics 1.     Viscosity 2.     Compressibility 3.     Boiling point ( Dry and Wet) 4.     corrosion Brake fluid is crucial to the braking system and must carry out its duty under exacting conditions. According to the Department of Transportation’s National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA), the brake fluid must pass through four standard tests: 1.     Do not solidify at low temperatures. 2.
