What is CVT? CVT stands for continuously variable transmission. The major components of the CVT system are driving pulley, driven pulley, CVT belt. It provides the infinity number of gear ratios within a particular range of ratios. How CVT works? While a traditional transmission uses a wide variety of intricate parts to shift between ranges of present gears, most CVT systems work through a pulley system. In short, this system consists of cones at each pulley connected via a chain belt. The cones can move to increase or decrease the belt diameter to change gear ratios, allow for quick shifting into the needed ratio for increased power, and boost fuel economy. One pulley in the CVT is connected to the engine and the other directs power to the wheels. The width of these pulleys changes based on the needed power; as one gets larger, the other gets smaller. There is a second, less common, type of CVT that uses a series of discs and rollers, but it operates on similar p
I
considered nothing is more in the brakes department if you are going to use an
OEM caliper.
In
Baja vehicles, the hydraulic braking system is used.
DOT3
DOT3 and DOT4 are glycol-based fluids.
Please
don't consider drum brakes.
There
is no sense to use drum brakes in Baja vehicles because it is heavy, big and also
driver needs more force for actuating the brakes. Hydraulic disc brake good
efficient to use for Baja vehicle because it is lighter in weight, compact in
size no more force required by the driver.
In
this type of Braking System incompressible fluid is used to actuate brakes,
this fluid is called brakes fluid.
Types
of brakes fluids available
DOT3
DOT4
DOT5
DOT3 and DOT4 are glycol-based fluids.
DOT5 is silicon-based fluid.
The simple difference is DOT3 and DOT4 absorb water while DOT5 doesn't.
And
the main point on which brake fluid is decided is its boiling point.
There
are two types of brake calipers used in Baja vehicles.
1.
Floating caliper
2.
Fixed caliper
Floating
caliper: In this type of
caliper piston present only on one side of the disc
And
on the other side, only a brake pad is available.
The
caliper in the market may be one piston two pistons etc. But one Piston and two
Piston calipers are used in Baja vehicles. Three pistons calipers are rarely
used due to its large size and requirement.
Advantages
of floating caliper:
1.
It is cheap and easily available.
2.
It is lighter in weight and compact in size compared to the fixed caliper.
Note: Disc will bend if you don't set the disc in the
right position between the pads.
Fixed
caliper: In this type of
caliper Pistons are present on both sides of the disc and they simultaneously squeeze
when brakes are applied.
Advantages
of Fixed caliper:
1.
It provides a good experience for the driver.
2.
A fixed caliper is more powerful than a floating caliper.
Some
of the calipers that I preferred ranking wise -
1.
Willwood caliper
This
caliper is very costly may be no one team can afford it. But you have no issue
regarding money then you must go with Wilwood caliper.
2.
Vespa caliper
This
is a fixed type of two-piston caliper.
3.
Bybre caliper
This
is two Piston floating calipers.
4. Brembo
caliper
This is also
well-fixed caliper
5 Endurance caliper
Important note: Many teams design and build their
single-piston calipers which is lighter in weight and compact in size.
I also preferred
you to go with a self-customized caliper.
Thank you
